I would never vote for any polititian who would not uphold our right to freedom of speech. My name is Jennifer and I am a 31 year old mother of a 2 year old and a 5 year old. We live in Waverly, NY. I feel it is up to the parents to monitor their children on how they use the internet. Let the polititians monitor their own children. There are features available to limit children's use...so parents should use them. Recently in the news, the internet was blamed for some children learning how to build a bomb. Well, pick up any advanced physics text book in the library and you can find the mechanics of bomb making, even encyclopedias and dictionaries can give explaination. My point is...what kind of parent raised these children to be interested in doing something of this nature? If these children were serious enough, they could have found out through many types of media...so why blame the internet? Another area being attacked as terrible misuse of the internet is cybersex. Everyone can experience unpleasant conversation, whether in a chat room on AOL, a local bar, or in the grocery store. It's how people deal with these unpleasantries that matters. I was raised to ignore unpleasant conversation. I raise my children do the same. You can be in a lobby in an AOL chatroom and mention that your female and suddenly get bobbarded with IMs for cybersex. What do you do? Just ignore them, go to another room, whatever it takes. I know someday my children will experiment. Big deal, it can't hurt them. I'll just do my best as a parent to prevent them from wanting to do it. If they start banning more of the internet, who knows where they'll stop. Thanks for letting me air my views.
